What Can You Do For Recreation in France?

France is known as a holiday destination for many people in the world. In fact, France’s tourism is a major industry in the country and contributes at least 8% to its GDP. 

Since it’s the chosen holiday destination for many people, expect a lot of activities for recreation in France for different types of people. For example, since France is a large country, it has a lot of different types of landscapes and seascapes, making it the perfect place for different types of outdoor activities.

Museum Hopping 

One of the perks of being an international student in France is the chance to experience a lot of things for free and this includes going to museums. International students, as long as they bring their student ID and show it to museums, their entrance fees are already free. 

France has a rich culture and its museums’ different types of exhibits reflect those. In fact, some of the most famous artworks in the world and history can be found in France’s museum. Some of those museums and artworks include the following: 

  • Louvre housing the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Liberty Leading the People
  • Rodin Museum housing the famous Rodin sculpture, the Thinker
  • The Centre Pompidou for its collection of modern art
  • Orsay Museum housing the works of famous artists such as Monet, Renoir, Paul Cezanne, and Van Gogh

Staying Active Outdoors

If you’re into more active activities such as outdoor sports, you are sure to enjoy staying in France. The French people are known to love different sporting activities, such as biking, rock climbing, hiking, cross-country skiing, and so on. 

Among its outdoor activities, cycling is one of the most popular outdoor activities in France. In fact, one of the world’s most famous sporting events, Tour de France, which involves cycling attracts thousands of racers and spectators every year. You can choose to join it, or enjoy watching its racers. 

Sports Activities 

Most universities and colleges in France have their own sports facilities that are accessible to their students. Usually, students may have to pay a small fee to access its facilities. After that, they are free to use the facilities, including its field for rugby, football, cricket, baseball, basketball, tennis, jogging, track and field, and so on. Among those sports, football is a favorite in France, especially in its larger cities. 

Join Music Festivals 

In recent years, France has become known for its impressive music festivals, making other music lovers around the world visit the country, just for the joy of experiencing them. Probably one of the biggest and most famous music festivals in France is Lollapalooza in Paris, which has brought in famous artists such as The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Imagine Dragons, and Lana del Rey. However, aside from its big festivals, the country is also home to some smaller festivals found in France’s different regions, showcasing France’s tradition and culture.
